How can space relate to our emotions and memories, both communal and individual? Who and what determines the functions and meanings of different spaces? ‘Spacings’ consists of several enclosures, placed in public areas, each large enough to allow one person to enter. Each unit is enclosed on all four sides with the top exposed and a low opening for entry. The enclosure will be covered with reflective film that works like a two-way mirror— reflecting its surroundings, yet clear to view from the inside.
Student participants will collectively select specific sites for the enclosures to be located. Questions raised by students about their concerns will be discussed at different levels: environmental, social responsibility, ownership, boundaries, etc; and will be posted inside the ‘Spacings’ installations for audiences to reflect and contemplate on them. The aim of this project is to foster an environment conducive to the growth of a curious, questioning community.

A graduate from RMIT Bachelor of arts, Fine Arts (Honors), specializing in sculpture, Angela Chong has a keen interest in creating a narrative in her installation works. A recipient of NAC Local Bursary and Georgette Chen Scholarship awards, her works deals with light and darkness, constantly blurring the line between fiction and ‘reality’.Her installation works depicts memories, and attachment between the object and a character using light projections. She is currently interested creating interactive works. This is her first outdoor public work dealing with light.She had been to several art residencies, namely at Nes Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland in 2010, Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo, Japan in 2008 and for Sense of Fear Festival 2006, Tabor, Czech Republic. She had been actively exhibiting locally in Singapore as well as overseas including Indonesia and Australia. She is currently working as a part-time Lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts with the Faculty of Foundation Studies.
