A DEEP CURIOSITY: AN INTRODUCTION TO MINDFUL AWARENESS

Nash Paul D’Souza is a mindfulness and yoga teacher, community artist and graphic designer from Mumbai currently based in Toronto. He guides students to notice their patterns of reactivity, learn through them, and in doing so feel more fulfilled in everyday life.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Join Nash as he introduces a practical approach to meditation and all the joys that come with getting to know yourself deeper from the inside-out. Nash is inspired by the mindfulness teachings of Shinzen Young. Shinzen aims to distill the meditation techniques of all contemplative traditions of the world into a secular, reason-based system that anyone, from any background, can practice and explore.

Session 1: Catching your wandering mind

We start off by watching our mind get distracted and fly away from our focus range. By treating this act of catching the wandering mind as a victory, we return our attention back to the focus range. Doing this simple act over and over, we strengthen our concentration power. In this session we get our first introduction to watching our physical body, emotional body, mental sight and sound, external sight and sound and in the guided meditations we do at home in the next week we will get more acquainted with the spaces.

Session 2: There’s only so much real estate in consciousness
As we keep deepening our experience in the Sensory Spaces, we slowly develop more clarity about our sensory experience and interactions between sensory spaces. We also discuss more options to deal with challenging sensations as they come up, also paying close attention to the resistance that comes up in developing meditation as a daily habit.
Session 3: Pay attention to the contour not the content
We are introduced to Noting techniques, to aid in noticing the arising and passing of our experience rather than only on their content. Use learn to use Labels to help us strengthen our concentration, and soak in more deeply into our experience.
Session 4: Everyday Enlightenment

We learn how to bring our formal practice into our everyday life through walking meditation and taking short meditation micro hits during our day. Also a deeper paying attention to our reactivity as it unfolds in our relationships.
